In 1988 I was new in Maine, raising my two year old daughter, when at the funky, long gone record store Cumberland Electronics I found a flyer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wanted: Volunteers for on air DJs on community station WMPG. We will train.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Me? On the radio? I grew up listening and idolizing Dan Ingram and Cousin Brucie on WABC-AM in New York!<\/p>\n\n\n\n I called and had a three hour training with then-program director Ed Noyse who then asked me \u201cOkay, what day and time would you like to be on?\u201d (boy, are things different now)<\/p>\n\n\n\n WMPG was only a 50 watt station at the time, so I could only hear the station driving to and from the studios in Gorham . I created Emotionally Bankrupt & Morally in Debt, a formatless music and interview show that ran for eight years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n During my time here I\u2019ve been Music Director, Promotion Director, vice chair of the volunteer board, and had a WMPG internship when I became a USM student (class of \u201895).<\/p>\n\n\n\n For ten years I produced The Lorenzo Commentaries that ran on the late, great Steve Hirshon\u2019s morning drive time show. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019ve hosted several live Radio Open Mic\u2019s which morphed into present day Podcast Open Mic (which I needed to pause due to health reasons, but hope to resume soon)<\/p>\n\n\n\n What can I say about a place I\u2019ve been involved with for nearly four decades?
