In 1994 a friend of mine named Arnold Olean, who was WMPG’s technical Director, asked me if I had ever tried doing radio. I said no, and he invited me to come over to WMPG and check out the station. I was instantly hooked. In my orientation class, the two other trainees were Claire Holman and Kerry Donahue. We became a team as Claire invited us to join her new talk show – Big Talk. We also worked with USM Professor Michael Hillard, and Political activist Wendy Hazard. Over the 10 years that the show aired, we also had Suzanne Murphy and Alan Brewer join the team.
I also got the chance to DJ music shows as I learned how to be a radio producer: from producing audio features and writing scripts, to learning editing software and journalism ethics.

I graduated from USM in Communications as a non-traditional student in 1998, and I was lucky enough to get a job in Broadcasting at WMPG. I was Program Director (1 st time) for 3 years and then stepped down to pursue a career as a freelance audio producer. Over the next fifteen years I taught at USM, edited for Audible, and did many freelance jobs. In 2017, I became Program Director (2 nd time) and have been thrilled and humbled to continue my time as an MPGer.
