STUCK IN THE 80s

A Lexicon of the Great 80s Music You Remember…and much more

I came to WMPG in the Spring of 1996, and after months of filling in all over the WMPG schedule, in the Fall of 1996, I lucked into a sweet Sunday night slot.  My show, STUCK IN THE 80s, started at WMPG’s sister station, WUMF, at the University of Maine At Farmington, in the early 90s, and like many shows airing on WMPG, STUCK IN THE 80s existed not only to entertain and educate, but also to fill a void left by commercial radio stations in the Portland area, representing music not being heard anywhere else.

After DJ Hope (Maryhope Tobin) and I collaborated for the first time in January 2011 for our Cold War Classics show, the show evolved from there.  DJ Hope became my sassy co-host, and on February 12, 2017, during the Valentine’s week blizzard, and after nearly 21 years on the air (or more than twice the length of the decade we were highlighting), STUCK IN THE 80s aired its final show on my 50th birthday, with DJ Hope and DJ Shawn Emerick by my side, replete with a mic drop and shutting the station down after the show.  STUCK IN THE 80s, much like my time at WMPG, is an experience that will always be with me.
